Code of Conduct

The Seattle Basketball Club Code of Conduct is the organization's statement of expected behavioral standards that all participants are required to read and follow. The Code of Conduct, intended to reflect the stated purpose (see Mission Statement), clarifies the expectations that Seattle Basketball Club participants have responsibility for their actions both on and off the court and have accountability for those actions when Seattle Basketball club standards are violated.

Mission Statement

Seattle Basketball Club is an integrated and all inclusive organization dedicated to providing the Seattle area LGBTQ+ community and its friends with a well organized and friendly sporting environment. We are committed to uniting athletes, communities and cultures on and off the court while promoting health education and community service.

Language

Threatening language and verbal threats, slurs against race, ethnicity, sexuality or gender will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship is defined as: fairness and respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing. All participants are expected to conduct themselves with the highest level of sportsmanship. Any participant who deliberately tries to harm or intimidate another participant through the use of force will be subject to the consequences described below.

Consequences

If a Seattle Basketball Club participant is found to be behaving outside of the Code of Conduct, they will receive a warning via email from the Board of Directors. If the offender continues to behave in a manner that violates the Seattle Basketball Club Code of Conduct, they will be suspended from all Seattle Basketball Club activities. Time to be determined by the Board of Directors. Participants will be notified via email. A participant who is suspended is not eligible for a refund of any fees paid nor are they allowed to attend Seattle Basketball Club functions.

Reporting Code of Conduct Violations

Code of Conduct violations can be reported by any participant to any member of the Board of Directors. All reports will be confidential and will be investigated in a timely manner. Other reports of Code of Conduct violations may come from persons outside of Seattle Basketball Club in direct association with Seattle Basketball Club's activities.

Monetary Responsibilities

All players are expected to follow all monetary collection procedures set forth by the Directors of Seattle Basketball Club. It is your responsibility to pay your fees associated with open play and leagues prior to participating in the activities. The signee acknowledges and understand that they will not be allowed to participate in Seattle Basketball Club open gyms and leagues if payment is not made prior to participation in said event. Violations of Monetary Responsibilities are a direct violation of the Seattle Basketball Club Code of Conduct.

To issue warnings, suspensions or expulsions, a majority vote of the Seattle Basketball Club Board of Directors is required. This Code of Conduct is effective April 15th, 2018.
